Bottom line
The market will cheer 7% organic growth and a 19.6% organic OI margin, but the sleeper story is that Ecolab just reversed its capacity posture because capacity, not demand, is now the binding constraint in Global High Tech, while the pest intelligence device count has been frozen near 800,000 for two straight quarters against a slipping 'by year-end' target that's quietly become 'a year or two'. The obvious headline, 63% GHT growth, is itself being walked back in real time by management ('63% is not going to be the steady state growth that we're planning'), and the newly admitted institutional volume decline paired with Beck's 'I'm not satisfied with our results' suggests a large piece of the portfolio is weaker than last quarter's 'darn good place' framing implied. My view changes if the November Investor Day finally delivers a real $/MW unit economics number for GHT instead of the same '3-5x directional' hedge repeated for two quarters running, or if Q4 shows the pest device count actually move off 800,000.

The 30-second version

  • The pest intelligence device count hasn't moved in three months, and the 1-million-device target just quietly slipped
  • Global High Tech's 63% growth is the headline, but management just reversed its capacity strategy to chase it
  • Institutional business: management admitted the quiet part out loud
