Bottom line
Cool IT is growing 3x faster than guided, transforming Ecolab into an AI infrastructure play, but they're using this headline to distract from deteriorating core earnings quality. The 11% EPS growth masks a 500 bps guide reduction and complete absence of cash flow disclosure. The binding constraint is working capital: two acquisitions plus 100% growth at Cool IT must be destroying cash conversion, which explains why they won't discuss it. Most revealing quote: 'reported margin in Q3 is expected to be in the high teens' immediately after reporting mid-20s in Q2, classic pump and dump on margins. My view changes if they provide FCF guidance and Cool IT's cash conversion metrics.

The 30-second version

  • Cool IT is growing 100% YoY, not the 30% they guided, and they just tripled their 2030 high-tech target
  • 11% EPS growth masks energy surcharge catch-up that's already baked for H2
  • Life Sciences margin spike to mid-20s looks unsustainable as they guide Q3 back to high-teens
