Bottom line
The sleeper story is storage quietly printing money - record profitability from Dell IP pivot while everyone obsesses over AI margin pressure. Yes, AI backlog doubled to $9 billion, but Blackwell margins are worse than already-bad Hopper margins and they're guiding flat ISG margins despite 50% AI growth. The real constraint isn't demand (pipeline up 50%+ again) but profitability - they're competing on price in massive deals and services attach isn't offsetting silicon pressure fast enough. 'We're going to continue to balance growth and profitability' - translation: we're prioritizing market share over margins. My view changes if they can prove services attach rates are accelerating or if storage momentum sustains the margin mix.

The 30-second version

  • Storage quietly became profitable while everyone obsesses over AI margins
  • AI backlog jumped to $9 billion on day 27 of fiscal year, but Blackwell margins are lower than Hopper
  • PC refresh keeps getting delayed and they're quietly losing confidence
