The sleeper story is Crocs' geographic arbitrage - international now drives majority of brand revenue at higher margins while North America pays the tariff tax. Everyone's focused on HEYDUDE's impairment, but the real binding constraint is U.S. consumer weakness hitting their democratic price point harder than premium brands. Rees admitted: 'We see our order books down and we see a trajectory for our wholesale business. That is unintended and not necessarily out of our control, but that is what it is.' Translation: they're losing shelf space to athletic and can't control it. My view changes if China growth decelerates below 20% or if Q4 North America doesn't show sequential improvement from the promotional pullback strategy.
The 30-second version
- Crocs is choosing profit over volume and international is carrying the company
- HEYDUDE just took a $737 million impairment hit and management is essentially admitting defeat
- Tariff impact is real and understated - $90 million annual hit at current rates
