The sleeper story is aggressive cost cutting - $50M in savings identified since February represents a complete pivot from the 'investment cycle completion' narrative to defensive positioning. While management frames guidance withdrawal around tariff uncertainty, they've provided precise impact scenarios ($45-130M) that are manageable given their cash generation. HEYDUDE's DTC acceleration to 8% growth is the real operational win being buried under tariff noise. The binding constraint isn't tariffs - it's management confidence in underlying demand, evidenced by Rees saying 'we can't predict what's happening day to day.' Most revealing quote: 'We would rather increase prices, protect margin and have adequate room in the P&L to invest in marketing than take margin reductions and have no latitude to communicate effectively.' My view changes if Q2 shows actual tariff impact exceeding their modeled scenarios or if cost cuts prove insufficient to maintain 24% operating margins.
