Bottom line
The sleeper story isn't the 32% revenue beat, it's that every specific, checkable metric that made last quarter's story credible (Texas +20% comp, Clutch's 3x conversion volumes, the $2.2M AUV figure) quietly disappeared the same quarter underlying transaction growth cratered from 5.1% to 1.7% system-wide. The obvious headline is a guidance raise on revenue, EBITDA, and comps, but that raise is increasingly M&A-assisted: Phoenix added only $5M of incremental EBITDA on a $63.5M purchase, and CapEx guidance jumped $80M at the midpoint while per-shop spend stayed flat at $1.4M. The binding constraint isn't demand, management's own words make clear Q3's guided step-down to 4-5% comp is pricing roll-off and food-rollout lapping, not weakness, it's disclosure discipline: 'we don't typically share strength across geographies' is a convenient line to reach for in the exact quarter you'd rather not show your best market cooling. My view changes if next quarter Texas, Clutch, and AUV dollar figures come back with numbers attached, and if management actually discloses CFFO/FCF again instead of leaving it out entirely.

The 30-second version

  • Texas, last quarter's single best proof point, just vanished from the call.
  • Headline beat and raise is real, but the deceleration is now guided, not macro.
  • Rewards gets a superlative with no number attached, and two prior proof-points (Clutch, AUV dollar figure) quietly disappeared.
