Bottom line
The sleeper story is IP business model destruction disguised as strategy - they merged engineering teams mid-quarter and are scrambling to move from off-the-shelf to subsystem delivery because their foundry bet blew up. Everyone will focus on ANSYS integration, but the real issue is IP margins cratering from 31% to 20% as they maintain resources during a 'transitional period' that could last through FY26. The binding constraint isn't demand (they claim it exceeds capacity) but their inability to scale the customization model profitably. 'We are taking a more cautious view of Q4 while still expecting to deliver a record revenue year' - classic management speak for 'the wheels are wobbling but we'll make the numbers.' My view changes if they provide specific subsystem conversion metrics and royalty rate targets next quarter.

The 30-second version

  • Foundry dependency blows up the IP model - this isn't just a customer issue
  • China export restrictions had lasting behavioral effects beyond the 6-week window
  • Operating margins crater to mid-30s in Q4 despite ANSYS accretion
