Bottom line
The market will focus on the 20% layoffs, but the sleeper story is architectural transformation: Cloudflare is becoming the first major SaaS company to rebuild itself around agentic AI workflows, claiming productivity gains that let them grow faster with fewer traditional support roles. The obvious headline is continued 34% revenue growth, but the binding constraint is gross margin compression from Workers which they admit are 'not yet optimized' with no timeline for improvement. Most revealing quote: Prince saying this 'unfortunately means saying goodbye to teammates who have contributed' while claiming 600% AI usage increase drove 'massive productivity gains.' My view changes if they quantify Workers margins or provide Act 4 revenue timeline in Q2, but the disappearance of pool of funds metrics suggests growth quality concerns beneath the strong headline numbers.

The 30-second version

  • SLEEPER STORY: They just laid off 20% of workforce while posting 34% growth
  • Agentic traffic monetization is real and accelerating
  • Gross margin compression tells a different story than they're selling
