Bottom line
The sleeper story is HUBB morphing from a short-cycle electrical distributor into a multi-year infrastructure project company, with book-to-bill at 1.2x and orders stretching into 2027, fundamentally changing the business model. Yes, data center is booming at +65%, but they're capacity constrained and can't ship more even as they claim 'continued strong demand.' The binding constraint is physical production capacity, not demand, which explains the massive CapEx increase and margin pressure. Management admitted 'every quarter we're adding more capacity' and 'there's little incremental capacity' in the same breath, revealing the operational stress. My view changes if they can actually hit electrical margin expansion in H2 despite these capacity constraints, or if NSI synergies materialize faster than the glacial 2-3% promised.

The 30-second version

  • Orders at 1.2x book-to-bill building into 2027: the real story is transmission project duration extending from months to years
  • Data center +65% YoY looks amazing but capacity is maxed: they can't ship more even if demand doubles
  • NSI acquisition math doesn't add up: $3B for 80 cents of 2027 EPS implies 30x+ multiple on a components business
