Bottom line
The sleeper story is that this 'blowout' EBITDA quarter was explicitly described by Ravi as a timing gift that got dropped straight to the bottom line because there wasn't time to reinvest it, not a durable step-change in unit economics, and forward guidance language quietly narrowed from a full-year margin commitment to a single-quarter range. The obvious headline, a material adjusted EBITDA beat driven by ads and 'RU' unit economics, is real, but the binding constraint here isn't demand: MAUs, subscribers, and share gains are all fine, it's disclosure discipline, with two previously quantified metrics (gas rewards cost, 30% MAU outside-restaurant stat) going dark and a direct AOV question answered with an autonomous-vehicle monologue instead of a number. Tony's own words on agentic traffic, 'no, the volume is quite low', is the tell that the next leg of the bull case (agentic commerce, tech stack ROI) is further behind than the stock's multiple assumes. My view changes if next quarter restores the dropped metrics with real numbers, gives 'RU' an actual dollar figure, and the EBITDA beat repeats without the 'timing' caveat.

The 30-second version

  • The EBITDA beat was a timing gift, not structural margin expansion
  • Headline 'material beat' obscures that two disclosed metrics quietly vanished
  • Agentic commerce confidence just regressed from 'we will' to 'volume is quite low'
