Bottom line
The AI agent story is vaporware: 90% transaction share but zero monetization model, while management retreats from 'building' to 'early days' language. The market sees record market share and celebrates, but Hyperliquid just showed anyone with enough USDC can hijack Coinbase's economics, exposing the fatal flaw in their stablecoin strategy. The binding constraint isn't regulation or adoption, it's that they're a spread business pretending to be a platform while Bitcoin revenue collapsed from 50% to 12% and they stopped disclosing every metric that matters. 'We saw an all-time high in paid Coinbase One subscribers this quarter' sounds great until you realize they won't tell you the actual number anymore. My view changes if they return to transparent metric disclosure or show actual AI agent revenue next quarter.

The 30-second version

  • AI agents are now 90% of Base transaction volume but Coinbase can't quantify the revenue opportunity
  • Market share hit all-time highs while Bitcoin revenue collapsed to 12% of total, down from 50%+
  • They stopped disclosing Deribit performance and buried an $18M revenue reclassification in stablecoins
