Bottom line
The sleeper story here isn't the 17% EPS beat, it's that two of management's own headline industrial growth metrics, new business awards and microgrid inverter customer samples, went sideways or down quarter over quarter while the adjectives stayed just as enthusiastic. The obvious headline is 100bps of margin expansion and 17% EPS growth on essentially flat sales, but that's a cost-control and buyback story, not a demand story, as management itself conceded: "Craig and I are not pleased with the current outgrowth". The binding constraint isn't customer demand, by management's own admission ("we don't see really demand as a constraint"), it's internal decision-making: the turbine generator capacity call promised "this year" in Q1 is still undecided in Q2 with identical language, and management flatly refused to disclose lead times when pressed. My view changes if the H2 2026 capacity decision actually lands with a specific gigawatt and capex figure, or if the microgrid inverter customer count moves off four for the first time.

The 30-second version

  • The 'exciting' industrial pipeline is quietly stalling at the proof-of-concept stage
  • 17% EPS growth on flat sales is a cost-cut and buyback story, not a demand story
  • The capacity decision promised 'this year' is still not a decision
