Bottom line
The sleeper story here isn't the cyber incident, it's that Boston Scientific just told you on the call that it can't forecast its own business, after a Q2 guide-down was itself missed in Q3. The obvious headline, 'cyber incident plus EP/Watchman cycle trough,' is real, but the binding constraint is product-launch timing: FerroWave Ultra slipped to early 2028 and Penumbra's close slipped to early 2027, both catalysts the entire 2028 reacceleration thesis depends on. John Monson's own words about needing to rebuild confidence in forecasts is the single most important sentence on this call, more telling than any guidance number. My view changes if Q4 actuals come in within the newly guided -1% to -3% range without another surprise miss, and if FerroWave Ultra and Penumbra timelines hold through the next call without slipping a third time.

The 30-second version

  • The real story isn't the cyber incident, it's that management just told you they can't forecast their own business
  • Headline says '2027 will be the trough' but the binding constraint is EP/Watchman product timing slipping further right
  • China pricing and APAC collapsed from +11% to -1% operationally in a single quarter, and nobody asked about it on the call
