Bottom line
The sleeper story is that CS&I, not memory or silicon carbide, is now the fastest-growing and most visible part of this business, up 13.7% sequentially to 38.6% of revenue, driven by the pre-order utilization signal management itself describes. The obvious headline, beat-and-raise with EPS of $1.06 and a lifted FY2026 outlook, is real but softer under the hood: a tax windfall and FX gain did real work on EPS, while gross margin missed guide for the second straight quarter and normalized free cash flow actually fell from roughly $28M to $21M. The binding constraint right now is not demand or capacity (management confirmed they have room to run well above current revenue levels), it's backlog conversion and order-rate confirmation in general mature, where they admit 'we have not yet seen a pickup in order rates'. The most revealing line on the call wasn't in the slides: asked directly about memory cadence, management conceded the second half 'probably looks similar to the first half', a much flatter picture than the 'momentum extending into 2027' language used minutes earlier. My view changes if Q3 backlog actually builds above $460-470M and gross margin lands at the guided 43% without another miss; until then, I'd treat this quarter's beat as lower quality than the headline suggests.

The 30-second version

  • CS&I is quietly becoming the real growth engine while everyone watches memory headlines
  • Beat-and-raise headline is real, but the EPS beat is partly a tax and FX story, not an operating story
  • The 2027 memory deceleration is disclosed in the Q&A transcript, not in the slides
