The sleeper story is HPC accidentally becoming a turnaround play as management goes from disposal mode to 'hell-bent on improving profitability' while Chinese supply exit creates a moat against weaker competitors. The obvious headline of Pet/H&G returning to growth is real but Pet's margin expansion is cost-cut driven, not operational leverage. The binding constraint is management's unwillingness to give earnings guidance despite claiming the worst is behind them - 'we believe synergistic growth opportunities are on the horizon' sounds great but where are the numbers? My view changes if they either commit to specific HPC profitability targets or provide 2026 EBITDA guidance that backs up their confidence.
