Scale-up CPO is the sleeper story - a fourth growth driver replacing copper within server racks by late 2027, expanding TAM beyond the scale-out market everyone's focused on. The obvious headline is OCS hitting $400M+ backlog three months early, but the binding constraint is factory capacity beyond fab capacity - they're pivoting to contract manufacturing because internal capacity can't handle the ramp. Most revealing quote: 'Only right to assume that optics begins to capture more and more of the connectivity, eventually subsuming copper.' This is Lumentum claiming the entire data center connectivity stack long-term. My view changes if scale-up customer commitments don't materialize in the next two quarters or if supply chain execution stumbles on the $400M OCS delivery.
The 30-second version
- Scale-up CPO is the real sleeper - brand new $100M+ TAM
- OCS backlog surge beats guidance by 3 months, but execution risk rising
- EML capacity sold out through 2027 despite 40% expansion
