Financial quality
The sleeper story is Lucid's infrastructure arbitrage strategy through partnerships like KAUST and the Nikola acquisition. While competitors burn billions on AI development and manufacturing capacity, Lucid is accessing supercomputing power 'with no financial commitment' and bought 'hundreds of millions' in assets for $17M. The obvious headline about tariff headwinds (now 8-15% gross margin impact vs 7-12% prior) masks the real constraint: they're not capacity limited, they're execution limited. Winterhoff's most telling quote: 'unfortunately accelerating midsize isn't possible, particularly in this environment' - that's a management team under pressure. The 600 vehicles in transit counting toward Q2 production and the HUD supply chain workaround show this isn't a smooth ramp story. My view changes if they start disclosing actual order book numbers and stop hiding behind demand narratives without denominators.
The 30-second version
- Saudi Arabia compute partnership is the sleeper story everyone's missing
- Tariff pain is real but management upgraded it from 7-12% to 8-15% gross margin hit
- Gravity production issues are being papered over with transit accounting games
