The sleeper story here is GitLab's admission that their land-and-expand model is broken on the 'land' side - new business cohorts are shrinking, forcing a major go-to-market overhaul mid-year that won't help until FY27. Everyone will focus on the 29% revenue growth and margin expansion, but the real constraint is new customer acquisition at a time when they should be capitalizing on AI demand. The most telling quote: 'All core cohorts continue to expand... but new business cohort member sizes have been getting smaller' - expansion is masking a fundamental growth engine problem. My view changes if they can show improving new logo metrics and provide specific timeline/targets for the consumption model launch rather than vague 'gradually over multiple quarters' language.
The 30-second version
- Go-to-market overhaul mid-year signals broken new customer acquisition engine
- Seat growth disclosure was a one-time metric designed to deflect AI headcount fears
- CFO departure and SMB softness create execution overhang into consumption model transition
